Don't be afraid to make "bad" art

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Sometimes, I get crippled by this urge to at least try to attain perfection in my work. I get so terrified of screwing up, I end up not starting anything at all or I abandon personal pieces midway. But mistakes can be crucial for growth, at times inevitable when practicing. But hey, that’s where learning comes in.

So here’s a late night doodle to console and remind myself that it’s okay to make and enjoy “bad” art once in a while.

I used a random gel pen lying around (as shown in the photo) and directly doodled on my sketchbook.

Details prior to adding color

Used select colors from this marker set gifted by my partner last Christmas (thank you!)

Instead of perfection, I now try to aim for personal satisfaction in my works. Makes the whole process a little less draining and a lot more entertaining.

Thanks for reading. Hopefully, more soon.

Getting back at it

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

First line of “Everybody” by the rapper Logic stuck in head for days, I had to pen it down.
Initially thought for this piece is to render it brush calligraphy style, but it found that it didn’t really work with the integrity of the lyrics and with my current mood.

Elements in the photo: Horcrux locket given by my partner, Lamy pen I bought to lessen my plastic pen waste, compass I use for feng shui, and an old vintage perfume bottle I found lying around the house.

Perhaps the lyrics resonated my desire to pursue this whole living a creative life thing or maybe the track is just that good. All I know is that I am doing what I can to get back at it.

Hopefully, more soon.

Daffodils

Tuesday, July 03, 2018

Daffodils are one of the earliest to bloom on the spring and often associated with rebirth, renewal, creativity, inspiration, awareness, vitality, and even forgiveness.

It is also the birth flower for March which is coincidentally the month I was born

Everything was rendered on photoshop with the help of my trusty old wacom bamboo tablet (ancient but does the job). Even the brushes used were the default photoshop brushes.

I'm glad to be making art again, but still getting the hang of returning to blogging. Guess I'll figure things out along the way

Refresh & Re-align

Thursday, June 28, 2018
It’s easy to forget about your cause and be blinded by applause.

I had to take a step back to remove some digital gunk that seeped through my psyche. I make art to express and maybe inspire at least one or two people, but I got blinded by this digital appreciation I sometimes get to the point that I am terrified to post my work and not get those damn “likes”.

So here I am starting out again.
I wanted a clean 3d-ish effect in conjunction with the theme of starting anew and rendered everything on photoshop. Took me a while to get the hang of it again after neglecting the skill for months.

Details

Going back, we get so affected by these “likes” so we create this inauthentic digital persona and forget our true selves - we forget to live in real life. It’s stupid but it’s true. Your worth is not equal to the likes your post can amass. We are so much more than these curated content we have online.

Don't forget to live.
